An exciting time to be alive

Dear Cookie and Kiss,
It is a historic day in the US and a very exciting day to be alive. When you are big you won't have a memory of this day, but I want you to know what it means to rally behind a candidate and to be part of a new direction of a nation. I believe, I really believe in Barack Obama and I really believe that he can lead this nation in the right direction.

My life is full and very busy, but it was important to me that I do something to turn the tide and so I found the time to volunteer. It wasn't a ton of time, but it was time well spent. There is no place for apathy in this world. We currently live in a small conservative town in Texas. It would be easy here to decide to do nothing - after all it was unlikely to actually change how the electoral vote for Texas would turn out. It would be easy here to not "rock the boat or the vote" but this is the here and this is the now and it was important to me be a voice in this election. To replace the Obama signs that repeatedly got stolen. To politely correct peoples misconceptions that Obama is 1) the anti-christ (seriously, people think this here) or 2) the new Karl Marx (not kidding). It was important to me that, years from now, when you ask what I did to help elect this amazing man to office - I would have an answer for you.
And elect him we DID. YES, WE DID!!!!

How do you explain Daylight Savings Time to a 7month old??

Okay, seriously! The whole "Fall Back" thing seems like nothing but a minor inconvenience - that is until you have children. Then it becomes a MAJOR pain!! So seriously, how do you explain to 7 month old twins that 6am is really 5am and that's waaaay too early to wake up? How do explain that although they are hungry we are trying to do everything 1/2 hour later today than yesterday?? I have NO IDEA because it totally backfired on me today. It was a cranky day that ended in all out mayhem at bedtime. I moved everything 30 minutes back, but these kids are on a schedule that apparently leaves little room for negotiation!! BABIES!!!

On a fun note. The day was not without reward. Cookie held on (while eating) his very own biscuit today! This is a first. In the past he would hold onto his biscuit and would chew on his biscuit - but not at the same time. Mommy had to hold the biscuit while he gummed it OR he would hold onto it but NOT but it in his mouth. Yippee Cookie!

As for Miss Kiss. She got up on her hands and knees for the FIRST time today. She has been exploring the whole crawling thing, but this was a first to get on all fours and rock. She actually moved one hand and one foot forward and then went SPLAT onto the ground. The indignity of it all!!

Will keep you posted on how we fair with the time change and with the crawling and eating. Such exciting times in the life of twins.

Highlights from Grandma L's trip

Grandma L came to visit on October 14th. She got great big Cookie Hugs and Kiss Kisses!! The babies loved cuddling and snuggling with their Grandma and were so glad that she took them outside to play!! Yippee!!!

Grandma very kindly offered to stay a bit longer than planned and was able to hold down the fort with the help of the SN and Daddy while I was away on my first business trip since I had the babies. It was really stressful to leave the babies for three nights but having my Mom around made it a bit easier. When I got home the babies just gave me a grin - like I had never been gone!! but Daddy and Grandma looked a bit tired and frazzled!

One last cuddle before Grandma flew back to WI on October 25th. We miss you already and can't wait for you and Grandpa to come visit again soon!

Hugs and Snuggles and many many thanks!!

Beautiful - Inside and Out

My Mom came to visit us this October and it was wonderful. It is such an amazing experience to share motherhood with your own mother. When my Mom came to visit shortly after the babies were born it was unexpected bliss. Not only was she wonderful with the babies - she was wonderful with us, this time was no different. Thank you Mom for being a very special person in our lives.
