Wow! Month 9 was a complete whirlwind. I guess they all are but with Christmas, SN's wedding, New Years, visits from GramA & GramP, and Fairy Godmother there was a whole lot going on!! Kiss and Cookie took it in stride but it nearly did me in!!
The 9th month was one of big developments for Cookie. He went from being a wobbly sitter to an adept crawler. I will admit that momma was getting a bit worried that sister was already "free standing" and Cookie wasn't yet crawling, but once he decided it was time to get a move on he did it with precision and grace! Cookie took his first full fledged crawl while GramA and GramP were visiting- it was such fun to share this "first" with them. Cookie is an all four crawler vs. Kiss' three point crawl. He isn't quite as fast as Kiss - yet, but he can still get the move on!

In addition to crawling, Cookie finely consented to feed himself, at least most of the time. He and GramA bonded over their similar love of bread, potatoes, cookies, and cheese . Toast and marshmallows remain favorite foods. He gets toast most days and marshmallows not so much! It is quite a trip to watch him eat, he kind of leans to one side, slouched if you will, and lazily reaches out with one hand (usually his left), grabs some grub, opens his mouth wide and aims the food at the general vicinity of his mouth. Some times he makes it but most times he doesn't, at which point he will keep his mouth wide open and start moving his hand about in hopes of hitting the jack-pot. It is pretty funny to watch. There is no urgency, no frenzy. It is nearly the polar opposite of watching Kiss eat! To help Cookie with his new dining skills was his FIRST TOOTH!!! It broke through just days before his 10 month birthday and gave us all a few rough days and nights, we continue to be deep in the midst of teething and I will keep you all posted.
Cookie also figured out how to go from laying to sitting and then all the way up to standing!! This 9th month was a huge one for Cookie's mobility and independence. We are so proud of him and so excited to see him explore the world around him - all on his own. Stay tuned for more of Cookie's crawling and chewing escapades!
Kiss kicked off month 9 by swiping some gingerbread and taking a BIG bite! We were able to fix the damage with some extra icing, but it was pretty funny. Apparently she takes after her momma in her love for cookies. The biggest development for Kiss this month was her FIRST WORD! It was 'dog', pronounced da-g. Kiss will sit and point at Bratwurst and Pixie (the dogs) and say da-g, da-g! She will also bark along with them - this sounds something like 'ba ah ah, ba ah ah". Cat soon followed dog and sounds something like 'ca-g'. The big differentiater here is that she is pointing at a cat and not a dog!! In addition to her first words she is very atuned to her name, if you call it out she will turn and smile. The sweetest thing! She will also hold out her arms to be picked up and will lift her arms when you say "arms up!". She is very into Daddy right now and thinks he is the greatest thing since sliced bread (which she loves too). Kiss loves to pull up on anything and everything (including YOU). She will "free stand" for a few seconds and is exploring going to standing on her own (look ma - no hands). Kiss had a toothless Christmas, but the New Year brought a new tooth - her very first!! Tooth one was shortly followed by tooth two and by the end of her 9th month Kiss was sporting two new bottom teeth (front and center). She had a grand time exploring them with her tongue and chewing on anything she could get her hands on (dogs were NOT off limits). It was such fun to see her marvel at her new teeth. She did pretty well and although had a few tyrannical moments, took it mostly in stride (for Kiss that is).

Christmas was a big hit - both kids loved the paper and bows. Cookie really got into the carrots for the reindeer (Kiss, of course, went for the cookies!) and loved to look at the lights and ornaments on the tree (Kiss wanted to eat the tree and the ornaments). New Year's was a delight, both Cookie and Kiss woke up, almost on cue, to get a midnight kiss and snuggle. We loved the three weeks that we spent with them while SN was getting married and on her Honeymoon, it was bitter sweet to have her return. Mostly sweet, but also a bit sad to not be spending everyday with them!! Month 9 was a joy and filled with so very many "firsts" and a whole lotta love. Thank you to everyone who helped fill their playroom with toys, their drawers with clothes and our hearts with love. We hope that you all have a terrific month too!
